About this notice
Nadir is an Android passenger flight companion from You Know Its Me Studios. This notice describes the current development version's data handling. It supplements the studio privacy policy; Strata-specific and Body Hub-specific app descriptions do not describe Nadir.
Nadir's current implementation has no user account system, advertising SDK or analytics SDK. It does not provide studio-operated cloud synchronization of flight history. Offline-first does not mean that no information ever leaves the device: online requests, exports and device services are described below.
Location and phone sensors
With Android location permission, Nadir uses GPS/GNSS and available Android location providers for position, altitude, ground speed, direction of travel, route progress and nearby geographic context. It also reads GNSS satellite status. Network or cached locations are distinguished from a satellite fix.
Available pressure and orientation sensors supply cabin-pressure estimates, trends and the attitude view. Readings depend on the device's hardware and permissions. During recording, a location foreground service can continue collecting data while the app is in the background. Automatic detection monitors while the app is open until a flight is confirmed.
Recording can retain precise coordinates, timestamps, altitude, speed, GPS track, accuracy, sensor-derived readings and flight events. These records can reveal where and when you traveled.
Local flight records and maps
Active recordings, completed flights and automatic flights awaiting review are stored in app-owned files. Saved flights include the actual recorded path, available telemetry, milestones, airport information and associated cached aviation information. Settings are stored locally.
World maps, geographic and aviation reference data, downloaded map detail and online caches are also stored on the phone. Nadir uses those resources to work without a network connection. Cached weather and aircraft information retains source and timing information; cached content is not necessarily current.
Online services and what requests can reveal
Online enrichment is enabled by default in the current version and can be disabled in Settings. New information requires a connection. Third-party services receive the network information needed to answer a request, including your IP address, and request details that can indicate places, airports or aircraft of interest.
- AviationWeather.gov: airport identifiers for METAR/TAF requests and geographic bounds for pilot reports, as well as advisory requests.
- ADSB.lol: aircraft lookups and nearby-aircraft searches. A nearby search sends latitude, longitude and a search radius. Linking a particular aircraft requires your confirmation.
- LibreWXR: weather catalog and imagery requests, including map tile coordinates and times for requested areas.
- OpenFreeMap: online basemap detail for viewed areas. Tile coordinates identify the requested map region.
- Source Cooperative / Protomaps archive: requests for map data used to prepare offline detail. Requested data ranges correspond to the coverage being downloaded.
The online-enrichment setting controls aviation and weather refreshes. Online basemap access and offline-map downloads are separate: automatic map preparation defaults to Wi-Fi only and has its own controls. Disabling enrichment alone should not be treated as disabling every network request.
Provider availability, coverage and handling of requests are governed by the respective services. See AviationWeather.gov, ADSB.lol, LibreWXR, OpenFreeMap and Source Cooperative. Dataset and software attribution is available in Nadir's Settings → Sources & licenses.
Exports and device backups
Flight exports are created only when you choose to export. JSON, CSV and GPX files can include precise locations, times and other flight details. Android's file picker lets you choose where to save them; a selected cloud or document provider may receive the file. Copies outside Nadir are managed by you and the destination service.
The current app disables Android cloud backup and configures its app-owned files, databases and settings to be excluded from Android backup and device transfer. Use exports to keep copies of flights you want to retain. Exported files follow the storage and backup settings of the destination you choose.
Deletion and your controls
Use Flights to delete individual completed flights or clear completed history. An active recording is separate. Use Settings → Offline Maps to manage downloaded coverage; deleting one pack preserves shared map data needed by other packs and does not delete flight history.
You can change Android location permission and Nadir's recording, online-enrichment and map-download settings. Clearing Nadir's app storage through Android removes its local data and settings. This is destructive and cannot recover a flight.
Deleting app data does not delete files you exported, copies held by their recipients, device backups or information retained independently by online providers. Support cannot remotely view or erase flight records stored only on your phone.
Website and contact details
The studio website is hosted on GitHub Pages. Its hosting and email-contact practices are described in the studio website privacy information.
For Nadir questions or privacy inquiries, visit the Nadir support page. Online form sending is currently unavailable. The published contact address is youknowitsmestudios@gmail.com.
Send only the details needed for your question. Avoid including a full location history or flight export unless it is necessary. This notice will need to reflect any changes to Nadir's data handling before public release.
